The Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) was a regulatory agency in the United States established in 1887 to oversee and regulate interstate transportation and commerce. Its primary responsibilities included enforcing fair rates, eliminating discriminatory practices, and ensuring a reliable and efficient transportation system across state lines. The ICC played a crucial role in monitoring the railroad industry and later expanded its jurisdiction to include other modes of transport such as trucking and shipping. The commission was dissolved in 1995, and its functions were transferred to the Surface Transportation Board.
