What Does NMSC Stand For?

NMSC stands for Non Melanoma Skin Cancer

NMSC, or Non Melanoma Skin Cancer, refers to a group of skin cancers that do not involve melanocytes, the cells responsible for pigment in the skin. The most common types of NMSC are basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). These cancers typically develop in areas exposed to the sun and are characterized by abnormal growth of skin cells. While NMSC is generally less aggressive than melanoma, early detection and treatment are crucial to prevent complications and ensure a favorable outcome.
