AED stands for Automated External Defibrillator
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable medical device designed to diagnose and treat life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, specifically ventricular fibrillation and pulseless ventricular tachycardia. It delivers an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to restore a normal heart rhythm. AEDs are user-friendly, equipped with voice prompts and visual instructions, enabling laypersons to administer emergency care in cases of sudden cardiac arrest, significantly increasing the chances of survival before professional medical assistance arrives.
