What Does AET Stand For?
AET stands for After Extra Time Football
AET, or After Extra Time Football, refers to a competitive format in football (soccer) where, in the event of a tie at the end of regular time, an additional 30 minutes of play is introduced. This extension is divided into two 15-minute halves, allowing teams the opportunity to break the deadlock. If the score remains tied after extra time, the outcome may then be determined through a penalty shootout. AET is commonly utilized in knockout stage matches and certain cup competitions to ensure a decisive winner.
