What Does AIDS Stand For?

AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome

AIDS, or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, is a chronic and potentially life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It results in the progressive deterioration of the immune system, making the body increasingly susceptible to opportunistic infections and certain cancers. AIDS is characterized by the presence of specific opportunistic illnesses, severe immune system damage, and a significantly increased risk of mortality. Effective antiretroviral therapies can manage HIV infection and prolong the health and lifespan of those affected.
