What Does ALS Stand For?
ALS stands for Antilymphocyte Serum
Antilymphocyte Serum (ALS) is an immunological preparation comprised of antibodies that target and bind to lymphocytes, the white blood cells involved in immune responses. ALS is primarily used in clinical settings for the prevention and treatment of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) following organ transplantation, as well as in certain autoimmune disorders. By depleting or modulating lymphocyte populations, ALS helps to reduce the risk of rejection and improve transplant outcomes. Its application is particularly significant in facilitating immunosuppression and achieving better compatibility between donors and recipients.
