What Does ARF Stand For?
ARF stands for ADP Ribosylation Factor
ARF, or ADP Ribosylation Factor, is a member of the ARF family of proteins that play a critical role in membrane trafficking, cytoskeletal dynamics, and signal transduction. These small GTP-binding proteins are involved in the regulation of endocytosis and the formation of membrane-bound compartments. ARF proteins function as molecular switches, cycling between an active GTP-bound state and an inactive GDP-bound state, thereby influencing various cellular processes. They are essential for the proper functioning of Golgi apparatus and are implicated in several physiological and pathological processes, including cell growth and immune response.
