Activated Sludge (AS) is a biological wastewater treatment process that utilizes a suspension of microorganisms to degrade organic pollutants in sewage. During this process, air is introduced into the treatment tank to promote the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms, which consume organic matter, thereby reducing contaminants in the wastewater. The mixture of microorganisms and treated water is then separated, and the microorganisms are recycled back into the system to maintain treatment efficiency. This method is widely used in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants for its effectiveness in reducing biological oxygen demand (BOD) and improving water quality.
