What Does BSE Stand For?
BSE stands for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy Better Known As Mad Cow Disease
BSE, or Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, commonly known as Mad Cow Disease, is a fatal neurodegenerative disorder affecting cattle. It results from the accumulation of misfolded proteins called prions in the brain, leading to severe neurological symptoms and eventual death. BSE has significant implications for public health, livestock farming, and food safety, as it can be transmitted to humans through contaminated beef products, resulting in variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD). Preventative measures and regulations have been implemented globally to control the spread of BSE and ensure the safety of the food supply.
