What Does CAES Stand For?
CAES stands for Compressed Air Energy Storage
Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) is a technology that stores energy by compressing air in underground caverns or above-ground vessels. During periods of low electricity demand, excess energy from sources such as renewable generation is used to compress air. When energy is needed, the stored compressed air is heated and expanded to drive turbines, generating electricity. CAES systems enhance grid stability, facilitate the integration of intermittent renewable resources, and provide a reliable means of energy storage.
