What Does CENTO Stand For?
CENTO stands for Central Treaty Organization Baghdad Pact
CENTO, or the Central Treaty Organization, also known as the Baghdad Pact, was a mutual security alliance formed in 1955. Its primary aim was to prevent the spread of communism in the Middle East and to promote regional stability among member states, which included Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. The organization sought to enhance military cooperation and political collaboration among its members, although it faced challenges and ultimately dissolved in the 1970s due to geopolitical shifts and changing national interests.
