CMI stands for Cell Mediated Immunity
CMI, or Cell Mediated Immunity, refers to the immune response that is mediated primarily by T cells, which play a crucial role in identifying and eliminating infected or malignant cells. Unlike humoral immunity, which involves antibodies, CMI is essential for the defense against intracellular pathogens, such as viruses and certain bacteria, as well as for tumor surveillance. This adaptive immune response involves various immune cells, including T helper cells, cytotoxic T lymphocytes, and macrophages, coordinating to achieve effective immune protection and regulation. CMI is pivotal for long-term immunity and is a key focus in immunology and therapeutic development.
