What Does CML Stand For?
CML stands for Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia
CML, or Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia, is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. It is characterized by the overproduction of myeloid cells, a type of white blood cell, due to a genetic mutation known as the Philadelphia chromosome. CML typically progresses through three phases: chronic, accelerated, and blast crisis, and is primarily treated with targeted therapies that inhibit the BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase, such as imatinib. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for managing the disease effectively.
