What Does DCMD Stand For?

DCMD stands for Direct Contact Membrane Distillation

DCMD, or Direct Contact Membrane Distillation, is a thermally-driven separation process used to purify water by leveraging the difference in vapor pressure across a porous membrane. In this method, a hot feed solution is in direct contact with one side of the membrane, while a colder distillate solution is in contact with the opposite side. The temperature gradient causes water vapor to transit through the membrane, while dissolved solids and other contaminants are retained, resulting in the production of high-purity distillate. DCMD is widely applicable in desalination, wastewater treatment, and resource recovery, offering energy efficiency and operational simplicity.
