What Does ENL Stand For?
ENL stands for Erythema Nodosum Leprosum
Erythema Nodosum Leprosum (ENL) is a constitutional inflammatory condition associated with leprosy (Hansen's disease), primarily caused by the Mycobacterium leprae bacteria. It is characterized by painful, erythematous nodules that typically appear on the extensor surfaces of the limbs and can be accompanied by systemic symptoms such as fever, malaise, and arthralgia. ENL occurs in patients with a specific immune response to the disease and can be recurrent. Management often involves corticosteroids and other immunomodulatory therapies to alleviate symptoms and prevent complications.
