What Does EPSP Stand For?

EPSP stands for Excitatory Postsynaptic Potential

EPSP, or Excitatory Postsynaptic Potential, is a transient depolarization of the postsynaptic membrane potential that occurs when neurotransmitters bind to receptors on the surface of a neuron. This physiological event increases the likelihood of the neuron firing an action potential by bringing the membrane potential closer to the threshold for activation. EPSPs play a critical role in synaptic transmission and neuronal communication within the central nervous system.
