What Does ESRD Stand For?

ESRD stands for End Stage Renal Disease

ESRD, or End Stage Renal Disease, refers to the advanced stage of chronic kidney disease where the kidneys can no longer function sufficiently to maintain the body's balance of fluids, electrolytes, and waste products. At this stage, patients typically require dialysis or kidney transplantation to survive, as the kidneys have lost approximately 85-90% of their ability to filter blood effectively. ESRD is a critical condition that significantly impacts the patient's quality of life and necessitates ongoing medical management.
