FLAIR stands for Fluid Attenuated Infrared Sequence
FLAIR, or Fluid Attenuated Infrared Sequence, is a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique designed to enhance the visibility of certain brain abnormalities by suppressing the signal from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This imaging modality is particularly effective in identifying lesions, such as those associated with multiple sclerosis, by allowing for clearer visualization of the brain's pathology against a less noisy background.
