What Does GFCI Stand For?
GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter
A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) is a safety device designed to protect electrical circuits from ground faults, which can occur when current flows outside its intended path. GFCIs monitor the current balance between the outgoing and incoming wires and quickly shut off electricity if an imbalance is detected, helping to prevent electrical shock and reduce the risk of electrical fires. They are commonly used in damp or high-risk areas such as kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor locations.
