What Does GITR Stand For?
GITR stands for Glucocorticoid Induced Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor
GITR, or Glucocorticoid Induced Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor, is a co-stimulatory receptor found on various immune cells, including T cells. It plays a critical role in regulating immune responses and inflammation. GITR is notably involved in enhancing T cell activation and proliferation, as well as modulating the balance between immunity and tolerance, making it a significant target for therapeutic interventions in autoimmune diseases and cancer. Its expression can be influenced by glucocorticoids, linking it to stress responses and immune regulation.
