What Does HED Stand For?

HED stands for Howardite Eucrite Diogenite Suite Of Achondrite Meteorites

The Howardite Eucrite Diogenite (HED) suite is a classification of achondrite meteorites that originated from the asteroid Vesta. This suite is composed of three distinct types: howardites, which are mixtures of eucrites and diogenites; eucrites, which are basaltic in composition and are believed to represent volcanic activity on Vesta; and diogenites, which are composed primarily of pyroxene and indicate deeper crustal processes. The study of HED meteorites provides valuable insights into the geological history of Vesta and the early solar system.
