The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) is a U.S. federal agency established to reduce the public health impact of alcohol consumption. As part of the National Institutes of Health, NIAAA conducts and supports research on the effects of alcohol on health and behavior, offers education and resources to promote responsible drinking, and develops strategies for prevention and treatment of alcohol-related problems. Its mission is to advance understanding of alcohol use disorders and improve the lives of individuals and families affected by these issues.
