What Does NLC Stand For?
NLC stands for Noctilucent Cloud
NLC, or Noctilucent Cloud, refers to a rare type of cloud that occurs in the upper atmosphere, typically at altitudes of 76 to 85 kilometers (47 to 53 miles). These clouds are composed of ice crystals and are often visible during twilight or just after sunset, when the sun is below the horizon but its light still illuminates them. NLCs are most commonly observed in polar regions during the summer months and are considered an indication of atmospheric changes related to climate and space weather. Their ethereal blue or white glow adds a unique beauty to the night sky.
