OFHEO stands for Office Of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight
The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) was a federal agency responsible for the regulation and oversight of government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs) in the housing finance sector, specifically Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Established to ensure the financial safety and soundness of these entities, OFHEO's primary functions included monitoring their financial health, managing risk, and enforcing compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The agency aimed to promote stability in the housing market and protect the interests of taxpayers. In 2010, OFHEO was merged into the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA).
