What Does PDR Stand For?
PDR stands for Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy
Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR) is an advanced stage of diabetic retinopathy, a diabetes-related eye disease characterized by the growth of new, abnormal blood vessels in the retina. This condition can lead to vision impairment and blindness if untreated. PDR arises from prolonged high blood sugar levels, causing damage to the retinal blood vessels. Symptoms may include blurred vision, visual disturbances, and in severe cases, sudden vision loss. Early detection and timely treatment, such as laser therapy or injections, are essential in managing PDR and preserving vision.
