What Does PGHS Stand For?
PGHS stands for Prostaglandin H Synthase
Prostaglandin H Synthase (PGHS) is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2, an important precursor in the biosynthesis of various bioactive lipid mediators. PGHS plays a crucial role in the inflammatory response and is involved in various physiological processes, including pain, fever, and regulation of blood flow. There are two isoforms of PGHS: PGHS-1, which is generally constitutively expressed and involved in homeostatic functions, and PGHS-2, which is inducible and primarily associated with inflammatory responses. Targeting PGHS has therapeutic implications, particularly in the treatment of analgesia and anti-inflammatory conditions.
