What Does PKR Stand For?
PKR stands for Protein Kinase R
Protein Kinase R (PKR) is a genes-encoded serine/threonine kinase that plays a crucial role in the cellular response to viral infections and stress. It is activated by double-stranded RNA, leading to the phosphorylation of various substrates, including the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 alpha (eIF2?), which inhibits protein synthesis and helps to establish an antiviral state. In addition to its role in antiviral defense, PKR is involved in regulating cellular processes such as apoptosis, inflammation, and immune responses. Its dysregulation has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer and autoimmune disorders.
