What Does PML Stand For?
PML stands for Promyelocytic Leukemia
Promyelocytic Leukemia (PML) is a subtype of acute myeloid leukemia characterized by the accumulation of promyelocytes in the bone marrow and blood. This hematological malignancy is often associated with a specific genetic translocation involving the promyelocytic leukemia gene (PML) and the retinoic acid receptor alpha (RARA). PML can lead to coagulopathy and presents with symptoms such as fatigue, fever, and bleeding. Treatment typically involves all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and chemotherapy, which have significantly improved outcomes for patients with this condition.
