What Does PROM Stand For?
PROM stands for Programmable Read Only Memory
PROM, or Programmable Read Only Memory, is a type of non-volatile memory that is used in electronic devices to store data permanently. Unlike standard Read Only Memory (ROM), which is pre-programmed during manufacturing, PROM can be programmed by the end user using a specialized device known as a programmer. Once programmed, the data stored in PROM cannot be altered or erased, making it suitable for applications that require reliable and consistent data retention, such as firmware storage and embedded systems.
