What Does PRP Stand For?
PRP stands for Prion Protein
PRP, or Prion Protein, is a type of protein found in many animal cells, particularly in the brain. Its normal form is involved in cellular functions, including cell signaling and neuroprotection. However, under certain conditions, PRP can misfold into an abnormal form known as a prion, which is infectious and can lead to neurodegenerative diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in humans and BSE in cattle. The study of PRP is crucial for understanding prion diseases and developing potential therapeutic strategies.
