What Does PUD Stand For?

PUD stands for Peptic Ulcer Disease

Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD) is a condition characterized by the formation of open sores in the lining of the stomach or the upper part of the small intestine. It is commonly caused by infection with Helicobacter pylori bacteria, the long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), excessive alcohol consumption, and smoking. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, bloating, indigestion, and, in severe cases, gastrointestinal bleeding. Diagnosis typically involves endoscopy and imaging studies, while treatment may include medications to reduce stomach acid, antibiotics to eradicate H. pylori, and lifestyle modifications.
