What Does SIRS Stand For?

SIRS stands for Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome

Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) is a clinical condition characterized by a systemic inflammatory response to a variety of potential insults, including infection, trauma, and other stressors. It is defined by the presence of at least two of the following criteria: abnormal body temperature, elevated heart rate, increased respiratory rate, and altered white blood cell count. SIRS can lead to severe complications such as sepsis, organ dysfunction, and ultimately, a life-threatening state if not promptly addressed. Early recognition and intervention are critical in managing this syndrome.
