SRM stands for Specified Risk Material
SRM, or Specified Risk Material, refers to tissues and materials from certain animals that are deemed high risk for transmitting specific diseases, particularly in the context of food safety. In particular, SRM is associated with the potential spread of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), commonly known as mad cow disease. Key examples of SRM include certain parts of the brain, spinal cord, and specified organs of bovines over a certain age.
