What Does SRP Stand For?
SRP stands for Signal Recognition Particle
Signal Recognition Particle (SRP) is a ribonucleoprotein complex that plays a critical role in the targeting and translocation of nascent polypeptides to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cells. It facilitates the recognition of signal sequences in newly synthesized proteins, ensuring their proper sorting and eventual localization in the secretory pathway. SRP is composed of a small RNA molecule and several protein subunits, working together to form a functional unit essential for protein synthesis and secretion.
