What Does SSE Stand For?

SSE stands for Space Shuttle Engines

SSE, or Space Shuttle Engines, refers to the powerful rocket engines used in NASA's Space Shuttle program. These engines were critical for the ascent phase of the shuttle's launch, providing the thrust needed to overcome Earth's gravitational pull. SSE encompasses a range of engine types, including the three main Space Shuttle Main Engines (SSMEs) mounted on the orbiter, which utilized a combination of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen for propulsion, as well as the Solid Rocket Boosters (SRBs) attached to the shuttle's external tank. Together, these systems enabled safe and efficient space travel for numerous missions between 1981 and 2011.
