What Does UBT Stand For?
UBT stands for Urea Breath Test
The Urea Breath Test (UBT) is a diagnostic procedure used to detect the presence of Helicobacter pylori, a bacteria associated with peptic ulcers and certain gastric conditions. During the test, patients ingest a solution containing urea labeled with a non-radioactive carbon isotope. If H. pylori is present in the stomach, the bacteria will metabolize the urea, releasing carbon dioxide that can be measured in the patient's breath. UBT is a non-invasive, quick, and accurate method for diagnosing H. pylori infection, aiding in the assessment and management of related gastrointestinal disorders.
