The United States Air Force (USAF) is the aerial and space warfare service branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, responsible for air security, operation of aircraft and spacecraft, and supporting ground and naval forces in a variety of military operations. Established as a separate branch in 1947, the USAF plays a critical role in national defense, providing strategic capabilities through air superiority, global strike, rapid global mobility, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), and combat support. It also engages in humanitarian missions, disaster relief, and international cooperation to enhance global security.
