What Does UTR Stand For?
UTR stands for Untranslated Region
UTR, or Untranslated Region, refers to segments of messenger RNA (mRNA) that are not translated into proteins. These regions, which are present at both the 5' and 3' ends of the mRNA, play critical roles in the regulation of gene expression, including the stability of the mRNA, its localization within the cell, and the efficiency of translation initiation. UTRs contain unique sequence motifs that can affect mRNA binding to ribosomes and interactions with regulatory proteins, making them essential for the proper functioning of genetic information flow.
