What Does WCED Stand For?
WCED stands for World Commission On Environment And Development Brundtland
The World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED), often referred to as the Brundtland Commission, was established in 1983 by the United Nations to address the urgent issues of global environmental degradation and sustainable development. Chaired by former Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland, the commission aimed to propose long-term strategies for achieving sustainable development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Its landmark 1987 report, "Our Common Future," played a crucial role in shaping international discourse on sustainability and inspired policy changes worldwide.
