What Does AGB Stand For?
AGB stands for Asymptotic Giant Branch
AGB, or Asymptotic Giant Branch, refers to a late stage in the evolutionary life cycle of stars that are typically between 0.6 and 10 times the mass of the Sun. During this phase, stars undergo significant changes, expanding and cooling as they exhaust hydrogen in their cores and initiate helium shell burning. This process leads to the production of carbon and other heavy elements, with the star exhibiting increased luminosity and shedding outer layers, contributing to the cosmic abundance of elements. AGB stars are critical in understanding stellar evolution and the chemical enrichment of galaxies.
