What Does CFC Stand For?
CFC stands for ChloroFluoroCarbon
CFC, or ChloroFluoroCarbon, refers to a class of compounds comprised of carbon, chlorine, and fluorine. Historically used as refrigerants, aerosol propellants, and solvents, CFCs play a significant role in the depletion of the ozone layer due to their stability and ability to release chlorine atoms in the stratosphere. Their production and use have been largely phased out under the Montreal Protocol to mitigate environmental impacts, particularly in relation to climate change and ozone layer protection.
