What Does CFC Stand For?
CFC stands for Chlorofluorohydrocarbons
CFC, or Chlorofluorohydrocarbons, are a group of man-made chemical compounds composed of carbon, fluorine, chlorine, and hydrogen. Historically used as refrigerants, propellants in aerosol sprays, and solvents, CFCs have been found to have significant detrimental effects on the ozone layer. Their ability to deplete ozone molecules when released into the atmosphere has led to global regulatory measures, such as the Montreal Protocol, aimed at phasing out their production and use to protect the environment.
