What Does DES Stand For?
DES stands for Diethylstilbestrol
Diethylstilbestrol (DES) is a synthetic estrogen that was commonly prescribed to pregnant women from the 1940s to the early 1970s to prevent complications such as miscarriages and premature births. However, subsequent studies revealed significant health risks associated with its use, including an increased risk of certain cancers and reproductive issues in both mothers and their offspring. As a result, DES is no longer prescribed for this purpose and has been banned in many countries.
