What Does SLIP Stand For?

SLIP stands for Serial Line Internet Protocolpoint To Point Protocol

SLIP, or Serial Line Internet Protocol Point To Point Protocol, is a communication protocol that facilitates the transmission of Internet Protocol (IP) packets over serial connections. Designed primarily for point-to-point links, SLIP encapsulates IP datagrams to enable network connectivity between devices over dedicated serial lines. While it provides a lightweight solution for serial communication, SLIP lacks advanced features such as error detection and encapsulation of multiple network layer protocols, which are addressed by its more robust successor, the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP).
